The community was originally known as Tucker's Barn, thanks to the arrival of the Tucker family in 1765. The Lenoir Furniture Company was founded in 1889. Visit the annual North Carolina Blackberry Festival
in downtown Lenoir, and you'll likely see the berry-stained faces of those that entered the blackberry-eating contest. Kildeer Farms offers blackberries to those that want to take them home instead. Get to the festival early to get in on the free blackberry cobbler. Arts and crafts vendors love to display their wares at this very special July event. Live music emanates from the Caldwell Musician Stage. There's "Parkin' Lot Pickin" for cash prizes. Contestants are required to dispense with makeup and pageant attire to compete for the title of the Blackberry Princess. Only K-3 students need apply!
